Frustrated.

Hello Everyone!!

So I am having a serious mental break down about this thesis bologna.
I've been looking at a lot of tutorials lately just because I am feeling totally lost but this is making everything worse. I feel like there is an entire world of graphic design I've never even seen before! Tools in photoshop/illustrator I couldn't even begin to use. AHhh frustration is completely taking over.

But in thesis blogging news... this week I've been really working on my Logo!

So far, my idea is to use M and R with a key some how?

Also! I was juggling with the idea of using some kind of brick pattern with vines over it. Long story short this is what my Grandparents house looks like and they started the entire real estate business for my family.

I have some sketches of the bricks but they look crappy on my computer and not worth the upload but here is what I have so far with the key and M R. (VERY ROUGH DRAFT -- still working on it.)

Does anyone know how to draw with photoshop or illustrator?? I want to make my own key but am struggling. I need to get away from using images from gooogle!!! HELP!

Whitney you should buy the Computer Arts magazine..they sell it in the lib. It helps me when I'm stuck and has some good tutorials.. or going to certain tumblers like http://www.ffffound.com always helps me out.
I like your logo! I would keep going with what you have, and sketch out more options. Sometimes if I make enough sketches and land on one I love it is that much easier to build it once you know exactly what you want it to look like.
Have you tried scanning your sketches into AI/Photoshop? It might be easier to do that and then play around using live trace and live paint.
Anyway I like the bold font and the key:) It's very cool. Hope I helped kinda.

  2. Hey,
I really like the top one. I like how you incorporated the key into the opening in the R, it looks clean and its different. I feel the same way about illustrator, there are buttons and tools I've never used and i was freaking out too. I agree with what Kristen said try scanning in and doing live paint or live trace, thats what I did from a doodle I did on my notebook in class for my penguin. Good luck and keep it coming!

  3. Computer arts is good, I would also check out http://www.logodesignlove.com/
Its all about logos, great examples and ways to think about what your crafting. I think right now you might be stuck on the key and being too literal. Not to say you won't end up with a key, but maybe you should release your thought from that path and see where exploring gets you.

As for drawing a wacom bamboo drawing tablet is the best way to draw in PSD or Ill. Instead of that you can just draw in a note book, scan and use live trace in illustrator. There are great tutorials for live trace and live paint on the atomic learning site (free if you log in through your portal) or if you have time meet with me and I can run you through is about 5 min.

Lastly I like what I'm seeing but maybe explore your fonts too, right now your font is really heavy/strong maybe playing with that proportion might halp you find your way. Good stuff.
