Thesis Idea!

Hey everyone!

For my senior thesis, I will be creating a company called Cardboard Wings (name may change) and it will be a T-shirt company. Why? Because I love t-shirts and can't get enough of them. What will be on the t-shirts are graphics, typography, and maybe drawings. I'm working on that right now. I'm hoping to have a more sketch feel to all the graphics that will be on the t-shirts. I want to show graphics that are of a social and personal issues of my life. Or just fun things in general.

In addition to the t-shirts, I will also be making sweatshirts, underwear (thanks for the suggestion stephan), hats, and hopefully pins, keychains, and other accessories if I have the tools for it. Also, for the branding aspect, there will be a logo of course and a website which may include a little bit of flash in certain areas of the site.

This pretty much sums up everything. If there are any questions, comments, suggestions, please let me know!

Hi everyone!

I hope that everyone is having a good Monday so far. My thesis is creating a feminist magazine that isn't only geared towards men and women, not only women like the one’s on stands currently. I want to include articles on entertainment aspects such as music and movies, as well as political/social issues. I also want to include listings for organizations that want to post volunteer opportunities. If anyone is interested in writing or has already written papers or articles on relatable topics I’d love to include them in the magazine! Have a good day :)

My Thesis Idea (s)

Hey all,

I am currently at my internship and loving it. There was a lull in the work day, so I thought I'd share my idea with you all! I am creating a fashion based, urban magazine, hopefully an Ipad version (we're learning how to create these designs here at my internship) and a cosmetic line. It seems like a lot, but I've already been working on it all year. So, it shouldn't be too bad.

The magazine will be about the size of W magazine. It will be very simplistic, as that is my design niche. I will be taking all of my own photographs (editing them etc.), writing all my own stories (mainly interviews and blurps on different events happening) and creating all of my own advertisements. The cool thing is, is that I am at an internship where I actually make ads (like today I made a Starbucks Frappuccino ad for Bloomingdales). This is where my cosmetic line comes in as well...

I will be branding the line "lux." (at least that's the name for now...) It will be organic, with clean lines and simple packaging. This line will be featured in my magazine. From ads to coupons to the photog spreads. I will also create business cards to be given out at the presentation...which brings me to my next point.

The presentation of my magazine will be my "launch party" not sure if this is too corny (let me know if it is) so I will create a "step and repeat" for it...with the magazine (which doesn't have a title yet) and lux cosmetics as the sponsors.

So, that's what I have thus far. I really, really am hoping to get the magazine done so I can work on the Ipad version. It's probably going to take over print very soon- literally. Whenever there is a deadline for an ad to be done, the following week an Ipad version is due as well! It's pretty complex, but interesting. I'm excited!

thesis idea

Hey guys! So for my senior thesis I really wanted to do something with motion and I've always enjoyed stop motion films. I mean lets face it, they're wicked awesome. SO! I am creating a stop motion piece!

My plot/idea is essentially to create a modernized Indiana Jones. I will shoot in the city. My Indiana will be played by my brother, and he will dress as what we Emmanuel kids call a "hipster" which is basically half of EC anyway, so we can relate. I will recreate the most famous moments from the Indiana Jones movies and put them together into one plot. I am urbanizing everything about the movies as well as putting a contemporary twist on the whole piece itself. This will give me a chance to really use my camera to its abilities as well as timing, and the motion editing process. I am really excited to get going on this, I will be storyboarding for half the semester, and my first shoot date is February 19th-20th. I will re-shoot as much as I need to, especially because of this DAM SNOW! Seriously, we get it, we live in New England but I'm ready to see the streets again.

Thesis idea

Hello everyone. Hope you enjoyed your weekend. Here's what my thesis is all about...

My thesis idea is to transform three Roald Dahl books into movie posters. I am going to be doing posters for James and the Giant peach, Fantastic Mr Fox, and George’s Marvelous Medicine. My original idea was to redesign three Tim Burton movie posters but since his style is so prevalent in his posters, I am instead going to apply his gothic and dark style to my posters. Roald Dahl’s books already have dark and twisted content so incorporating Tim Burton’s artistic style seems logical. I originally intended to illustrate all the characters for the posters in black ink and I have yet to experiment much with this. As I was doing my sketches I found that I was leaning towards illustrating the titles by incorporating images from the story’s content, for example seagulls, branches, and smoke spell out the titles. This has caused me to lean towards playing with typography rather than focusing on the pen drawings. I may still use that idea if it seems to fit well with the overall design. Overall I want my posters to appear gothic stylistically and to reflect both the dark content of the books and Tim Burton’s influence on my work.

my new thesis!

So I was going to meet today for the thesis group, but its a snow day! Anyway I'm really early for my internship so I thought I'd share with you my new thesis idea. Well, its new since end of December. So my dream would to be to design for a cosmetics, skin care, or any kind of beauty line. I think they are so fun and love brands such as Stila, Benefit, and Too Faced Cosmetics. But I realized do I really like the make up or just the cute packaging?
So my idea was to create my OWN cosmetics line! I brainstormed a lot about what I wanted to do, and kept thinking of cute names or ideas but nothing really stuck out to me. Then I looked over at this Astrology book I had and had an idea.

I could create a customized make up line dedicated to YOUR zodiac sign! So basically, I read each zodiac sign and determined what colors would best describe your sign.I called it Zodiac Cosmetics. For example, I read upon the zodiac sign for Leo, and they say that Leo's are aligned with the sun. So I chose golds and toned down yellowy/nudes to be the eye shadow colors. Also, you could think about it as a color of the lion, leo's symbol illustration. I have designed some of the palettes and I have designed in illustrator a picture of the sign's symbol. When you open the palette it will also have a beauty quote about your sign on the mirror. I will also do a business card, letterhead, fliers and banners, ect. I'm really excited about this idea and even looked it up on google to see if its been used before! I don't think it has, which I'm super excited about because I'd definitely want to try out this idea in the future. I have a source to getting palettes and cosmetic containers to use for the final showing of this. What do you guys think? Let me know!

Thesis Idea!

Hellooo Senior Thesis Class :)

For those of you who did not see my proposal presentation, my senior thesis will be as follows:

After thinking about the thesis project for a while I realized my family's real estate/rental company has no branding or any real professional collateral. So, in being the perfect daughter I am, decided to help out my family and brand their company.

For my project I will be including many different aspects of branding. I will be creating a logo design for them, business cards, a letterhead, a professional lease, a website (maybe), and for the big finale, a real estate look book. This book will be designed like a coffee table book that will display all of the properties my family owns.

For the design part of the project, I really want to have a vintage feel to the design. I would like to attract hip young families or hip young businessmen and women.

Also, my favorite part of this project is that I will be including vintage map design. Because I will be trying to sell the real estate in the book, I want to include a map of where the house is. This map will be in vintage design with icons of schools, theaters, parks, etc. This will give the person purchasing the house an idea of what is around and if they like the area or not.

I think that this project will go very well for me because I am very interested in my families business. It is a huge part of my life. Also, I have a deep love for vintage maps.. I'm not very sure why. I stumbled across an old, old, old MA. map and I fell in love with it.

But anyways, If anyone has any suggestions, questions, or thinks I'm going in the wrong direction please speak up! and help guide me correctly.

How was everyone's break?

Hey guys, how was the break? I'm getting ready to go to Tokyo here in a couple of days. I leave Saturday morning from here in Austin, then fly through LA and get to Tokyo Sunday late afternoon. I will be contributing to this thesis blog probably a little more than everyone else since I won't be able to attend thesis meetings in person. However, me and Erich have discussed maybe me attending via Skype. I also have my own blog which will have posts about my thesis progress as well as how my internship is going, and also just fun stuff about my adventures in Japan. This is your Thesis Blog. Just about every other week we meet in small groups to discuss your projects and your progress. On the weeks we don't meet you will post what's up on the blog. It can handle images text and videos.

This should be an open community, so in addition to the images, links, scanned notes and basic ramblings you'll be posting, if you see something a classmate might be able to use, post it too. On any week we don't meet you will be required to post something.
